Face Up to Your Fears

We all have fears, it is not something we should be ashamed of. Some of us are afraid of not having friends, some are afraid of not having a job, while some are afraid of failing …..

It doesn’t matter what your fears are, the point is we have to face up to our fear rather than avoiding it.

[My Story]

Recently, I confronted my fear of having desserts. I went to a Japanese restaurant to enjoy an Omakase with my mother and we both order a lunch set. It was a great dining experience, I had many sushi that I haven't tried before, like sea urchin, salmon roe ….

Then the dessert — tofu ice cream came. Before lunch, I told myself that I would just have the sushi and skip the dessert as I was afraid of gaining weight and would felt guilty afterward.

But then my mother was having it and she encouraged me to try it since it tasted really good.

I was debating with myself — it looked delicious and I wanted to try but will it ruin my fitness progress?

I thought for a while and decided to eat it. One bite…. wow, it was delicious!! Second bite, third bite, forth…. I finished the ice cream without even noticing it. I enjoyed every bite of them and it was truly delicious, especially with the crust underneath it.

The truth revealed — I mirrored myself the next morning and nothing has changed (at least from my perspective). My body didn’t change, it was still the same!!

Side note: life is too short to restrict yourself from everything. If you want that ice cream, GO EAT IT GIRL! Enjoy every bite, if you really get fat afterward, just work hard again — This is how I told myself when I am debating whether to eat the ice cream or not:)

Sometimes you just have to face up to your fear and realize it wasn't real at all.

For me, I was afraid that eating unhealthy meals or foods, ice cream, cake… will make me fat (of course it will if you are eating like this every day lol), even eating it for once. So basically, I RESTRICTED myself to eat all the food I think is ‘unhealthy’ even if I wanted to eat it.

I am sure that if I didn’t try that ice cream, I will never know the fear in my mind actually doesn’t exist at all! I am still the same, same me, same body the next morning. Even though I read a lot on Instagram — saying that one treat won’t ruin your fitness journey and you cannot restrict yourself in an extreme way if you want your diet to sustain. I won’t believe it unless I experienced it myself, unless I confronted it.

What are your fears? Feel free to share and tell us how you confront it 😇
